DIY Electric Car Conversions
DIY electric car conversions are becoming more commonplace. They are increasingly becoming more popular due to the pressures upon us to cope with the rise in gas prices, and also due to the fact that each and every one of us needs to play a part in making the environment we live in healthier and cleaner. Every day we are reminded that our carbon footprints need to be reduced significantly.
Most of us will do a lot of energy saving in small ways, because we can afford to, however buying an electric car is expensive. This is where DIY electric car conversions come in. DIY electric car conversions are for people like you and me, who have no mechanical experience and who just about know what a spanner is. The kits that you can buy describe in detail how to remove some internal parts to the car and replace them with parts that make it run on electricity.

Convert a Car to Electric
Do you want to convert a car to electric? You are looking in the right place. More and more of us are deciding to adopt greener ways of life in more advanced ways and this is a novel way to do it. You may have already read quite a bit around the subject or you may have only just realised it is possible. Whichever way it is, I want to eliminate some fears that you may have around doing it.
Fear 1: You are a woman. Who cares! Yes, it could be said that most women are not mechanically minded and frankly don’t give a jot about the internal workings of a car. That should not put you off the idea of it being possible for you to convert a car to electric. Most guides helping you convert a car to electric are gender neutral. They will not intimidate you!

Hydrogen, Hydrogen Generators, HHO, Gas Savers – The Definitive Facts
The purpose of this article is to dispel the myths, misinformation, and confusion induced largely by members of the media and others who are not too knowledgeable in this field. Part of the problem is that; the onslaught of “Run Your Car on Water” ads all over the internet is misleading. Although this is possible, these ads are referring to electrolyzers/hydrogen boosters which is a fuel saving device. “Supplemental hydrogen” would be a more accurate term. Unfortunately, there are some bogus companies out there but this device is real and it does work. There are many credible sources for information on this; The National Hydrogen Association, the EPA, and the U.S. Dept. of Energy (just to name a few). An electrolyzer/hydrogen booster generates hydrogen and oxygen (hho/Brown’s gas) and should not be confused with hydrogen fuel cells which produces electricity and can be used to power an electric car.
The authors of these build-your-own plans all over the internet (in many cases) are not very knowledgeable. There are many factors to consider and the efficiency of the product (and whether or not it works) is going to depend on it. Also, the tools & materials needed to build something, with some quality, can be costly. I have read several articles from supposedly authoritative, professional, intelligent people who were claiming that these devices don’t work. After reviewing their test procedures, it came as no surprise to me that they got negative results. Unless you really know what you are doing, you’re better off buying a pre-made product from a reputable manufacturer with a guarantee.

Headlight Evolution to Hid Lights
Headlights are a very important part of our cars equipment and have a history of their own as through the years they have developed into the halogen and on into the best system which is the high intensity discharge or hid lights that are available today.
Early headlights in the 1980s and through the 1990s were oil burning lamps using acetylene as a fuel. Trial and error showed that this fuel was the most resistant to weather conditions like rain and wind. These remained in use even after the introduction of the electric bulb which at first was proving to be very unreliable due to breaking easily as filament materials were not very advanced and also dynamos to produce sufficient power were also unreliable. The first electric car lights were made in Connecticut in 1898 and were never introduced as standard until 1908 when peerless manufactured the first standard fitted units. Cadillac made the biggest change in 1912 when they created the first complete built in electrical system in a car. This had a combined ignition, starting, charging and lighting system and was the start of todays modern wiring looms.
Dipping a headlight started off as having to get out of the car and adjusting the lamps manually which was not a very good way of doing it. This moved on to a lever inside the car to adjust the lights up and down and the foot dimmer switch was introduced in 1927 and continued to be used until 1991 by the ford motor company. The first dual filament bulb for both high and low beams was the bilux bulb made in 1924.
