Automotive Suspension Parts Section Two

Automotive suspension parts are responsible for ensuring a safe control of the steering of the vehicle. These automotive suspension parts can be converted and changed according to the needs of the vehicle owner.

For example, a owner of a vehicle equipped with four wheel drive versus an owner of a vehicle with two wheel drive will find a significant difference in the make up of the automotive suspension systems. Another variable while determining differences in automotive suspension systems relies on the size of the engine of the vehicles being compared

A vehicle that has a small motor will not need a high performance suspension system. The automotive suspension systems are built of a higher grade material when the vehicle is carrying a larger more powerful motor. From Shocks to Mounts to Struts – 6 Steering & Suspension Tips That All Car Owners Should Know

Steering and suspension systems have been smoothing out bumpy rides in foreign and all automobiles even before cars were even introduced to the road.   Even way back to the days of horse pulled carriages, people were constantly trying to figure out ways to have more and more control with less and less movement.  Every brand of car may have a different feel on the road when it comes to steering and suspension.  However whether you have a Volvo, BMW, Mercedes, Audi, VW, etc…. there are also common steps that each and every car owner can do to assure that their car rides as smooth as possible.  Here are 6 steering and suspension tips that you should always follow:

  1. Wearing and tearing of your Rubber Bushings in the front suspension control arms typically are major causes of front-end movement or shimmy in most cars.  If you are experiencing a less smooth ride, the rubber bushings could be your problem.
  2. Replacing the tie rod assemblies and the center track rod at the same time should always be a must. Replacing just one worn unit will speed up the wear and tear on one side as a result of uneven stress loads.
  3. If you need to replace your wheel bearings, always change both left and right side wheel bearings at the same time.  You should also follow this rule if changing your front and rear shock absorber mounts and spring pads.
  4. Always keep an eye on your Idler Arm Bushings and replace when needed. Worn out bushings can also cause front-end shimmying and cause you to lose the feel of your car.
  5. Tearing in your shaft boots is also very common. A torn boot could allow excessive road dirt and moisture and possibly damage your CV joint.
  6. You should always have matching front and rear shock absorbers. Mismatched units between front and rear can cause difficulty in control and steering.
